TREACLE is the publication arm of Coda Photos. Live music, written and photographed by the people standing in the pit.
What this is
Most live music coverage is written by people watching from the back, or from a laptop. TREACLE is written by the people with a camera in the first three songs, and by the artists and crew they meet doing it.
That means the reporting comes with a specific bias, and we would rather name it than pretend otherwise: we care about what a show is actually like to be inside. The light, the crowd, the moment a set turns, the walk back to the car at two in the morning. The photographs are not illustrations of the writing. They are half of the reporting.
TREACLE publishes across five columns, year-round, in English.

Photographer-led. Shoot dispatches, craft, gear, and the business of working in the pit. The view behind the camera.

Interviews and guest essays. Artists, photographers, industry figures in their own words.
Field Notes
Place-based features. Festivals, venues, scenes, cities. What this place is and why it matters.
The Wire
Curated round-ups. Press picks, social moments, viral clips, standout moments from elsewhere.
Heard
Reviews and listening. Concerts, festivals, songs, albums. Plus playlists and tracks of the week.
How we work
Every photo carries its own byline
Not a credit at the bottom of the piece. The name of the person who took the frame sits with the frame, every time. It is the whole reason Coda Photos exists and it does not bend for layout.
Written by people who were there
Our writers are working photographers and the people they shoot. If a piece describes a set, someone on this masthead stood in that pit. Where a story comes from elsewhere, we say so and link out.
No sponsored posts
Nobody pays for coverage here. Nobody pays to be left out of it either.
Corrections in public
If we get something wrong, we fix it on the page and say what changed. Write to us and we will look at it.
Who
TREACLE is edited by Colin Darbyshire and Annelies Vollmuller, who founded Coda Photos and still shoot most weeks. Pieces are written by them, by photographers in the Coda Collective and Network, and by guest contributors.
Coda Photos has been shooting live culture across Europe since 2022: music, festivals, fashion, sport and brand work, past 600 shoots. TREACLE is where that archive gets written about. coda.photos is the agency side: the portfolio, the Collective, and the open Network for working photographers.
