We cannot be at every show. If you were at one that deserved writing about, tell us.
Who
Photographers, writers, musicians, tour crew, volunteers, promoters. You do not need clips, a masthead, or a press card. You need to have been in the room.
First pitch is the hardest one to send and the easiest one for us to say yes to. We would rather read a rough idea from someone who was there than a polished one from someone who was not.
What we want
From the Pit
A shoot that went sideways and what you learned. A technique you worked out the hard way. The unglamorous business side: rates, contracts, accreditation, kit that survived the rain.
Voices
Interviews with artists, photographers, tour crew, promoters, volunteers. Guest essays in a first-person voice. We would rather have one specific conversation than five polite ones.
Field Notes
A festival, a venue, a city scene. What the place is actually like, not what the press release says. Best if you have been going for years.
The Wire
Something happening right now that music fans are already talking about, with an angle nobody else has. Speed matters here more than length.
Heard
Reviews of shows, festivals, songs and albums. Listening notes. We do not run scores, we run opinions with reasons under them.
What to send
- 01One paragraph on the idea and why now.
- 02Which column you think it belongs in, and roughly how long it would be.
- 03Whether you have photographs, and whether they are yours.
- 04A link to something you have written or shot before. A social profile is fine.
Do not send the finished piece. Send the idea first, so we can shape it with you before you spend a weekend on it.
The terms
You keep your copyright. Every photograph runs under the name of the person who took it, in the frame, not buried in a credit line at the bottom.
We reply to everything, including the noes. If we are slow, send a nudge.
