Pitbull and Jason Derulo made PRIVACY on two continents

Pitbull and Jason Derulo released "PRIVACY" on 24 July, and the way it was made says as much as the record itself. Pitbull cut his vocals in Australia, mid-tour. Derulo worked on it from his own Last Dance World Tour. The Grammy-winning production team STYREOTYPES stitched the two halves into one dance record. Nobody had to be in the same room, or on the same continent.

It is their fourth time around. "Fire", "Drive You Crazy" and "My Life" all came out of the same partnership, and this lands as the same animal: Pitbull's Latin-pop instincts under Derulo's hook-first melodies, a summer record built for radio and a field at once.

Made in transit

The detail worth sitting with is the logistics. Two artists at the peak of their touring years, on opposite sides of the planet, releasing a joint single without a studio session between them. A decade ago that was a compromise you could hear. Now it is simply how a record like this gets made: files move, tour buses do not stop, and the collaboration happens in the gaps.

It also explains the shape of the song. "PRIVACY" is not two artists finishing each other's sentences, it is two specialists doing the thing each of them is best at and trusting the producers to make it one record. On a dance track built for volume, that works.
