Doechii performs at the BET Awards with four nominations
// Coda · 2 min read
We saw this coming. From the first time we caught Doechii we knew she would be big, so four BET Award nominations does not surprise us. She performs at the ceremony on Sunday 28 June, airing live at 8 PM ET from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Cardi B leading the field on six.
Her four: Best Female Hip Hop Artist, up against Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla and Doja Cat. Video of the Year for “Anxiety.” BET Her for “girl, get up.” with SZA. And the new Fashion Vanguard Award, for artists who treat fashion as storytelling, where she sits next to Beyoncé, Rihanna and Zendaya. It is the kind of haul you expect from someone who took Best Rap Album at the Grammys in February 2025, the third woman ever to win it and the first to do it with a mixtape.
She has sat near the top of our shoot list for a while, the Kendrick energy in her writing and the way she runs a stage. The gods have not made it easy. We could not make it to her Bitterzoet show in 2024. At Roskilde last summer we had a photo pass, and then the number of photographers allowed in the pit was cut right before she walked on.
So we found a spot in an already-packed crowd and shot her from a distance, in the rain. So we still hope to catch her one time from the pit!
The BET Awards air Sunday 28 June.
